Beach, Please....

What a fantastic day, again.  Thanks to the adverse weather earlier in the week leading to our rearranging our itinerary, Danica and I spent the day exploring beaches on the northern Green Gables shore of the Central Coastal Route.

To start, we headed to Darnley to find Thunder Cove Beach and Tea Cup Rock.  They were on the itinerary earlier, but eluded us using the paper map and street signs.  Apparently, the locals want to keep it their little secret.  Even Google Maps had a heckuva time helping us today, leading us around the same square root repeatedly.  It was worth the hassle though.  The caves in the sandstone cliffs reminded us of the ice caves on Lake Superior, though warmer.

On our way from there to Cavendish beach, we checked out one of the scenic lookouts (they aren't always clear so we have missed a lot of them) and happily stumbled upon French River.  This is one of the iconic PEI views that showed up in all the research I did but forgot about it.  Danica was not quite as excited as I was.

Cavendish beach had beautiful fine white sand with dunes behind and Red cliffs on either end.  It was busy yet didn't really seem crowded.  We ventured into the water but didn't stay long as Danica found it cold and forgot her goggles.  I thought it felt comparable to Lake Superior this summer.

We ended the afternoon at Brackley Beach.  It was also very nice but much more congested, likely due to it's proximity to Charlottetown.  Unfortunately, Danica took notice of the surf conditions sign on the way onto the beach so would not set foot into or near the water, even though plenty of other people were in the ocean.

Tonight, Danica and I went to Victoria Row for a nice dinner at Row House Lobster & Steak before heading to the Guild Theatre to see 'Anne & Gilbert: The Musical'.  What a fantastic show!  My white sangria and lobster tacos were pretty scrumptious and Danica was very happy with her lemonade and pasta.

Danica then sweet-talked me into taking her to COWS before we got lost on our way back to our car to come home.  I tried Wowie Cowie, their most popular flavour, and Danica tried Brownie Explosion.

A nice end to our last night on PEI - when we handed in our ticket to pay for our parking, the attendant only charged us $1.75.  I asked if there was a mistake as that was the hourly rate and we were parked for over 5 hours.  He informed us that the time wasn't imprinted on the ticket so it was our lucky night!  We should have stopped and bought a lottery ticket; maybe my luck in PEI is better than in Ontario.
