Happy 7th Birthday, Duncan!

For years Robert has been talking about celebrating Duncan's 7th birthday in the Philippines.  Of course, his original intention was to have Duncan circumcised at this time but he settled, instead, for a ginormous Jollibee party.  We've been avoiding the big birthday party for quite a few years, refraining from inviting the entire class, opting instead for family and close friends.  At that, we usually still end up with 25-30 people at our parties.

Since we were going to be in the Philippines for Duncan's birthday this year, Robert's sisters planned a party for Duncan and what a party it was!  Jollibee is the Philippines equivalent to McDonald's (they also have McDonald's but Jollibee would be the first choice of most Filipino children).  The party came with 3 party hosts who organized games, provided entertainment and dancing, decorated the room, and escorted the mascots, Jollibee and Hetty, into the room at the appropriate time.

The guests included the immediate family, the extended Rivera and DelBarrio clans, friends of Lolo's (Robert's Dad), neighbours in the subdivision, and classmates of Duncan's cousin, Chessie.  Some old friend's from Robert's Shangri-La days were able to attend with their families too.

Of course, the party didn't end when Jollibee kicked us out.  The party continued on at the house where Robert's Mom, sister and brother-in-law whipped up enough food for the guests in a matter of minutes.  And it wouldn't be a Filipino party if there wasn't some karaoke!
