A Little Rain and a Lot of Anne

So we woke up to the sound of raindrops and the forecast for most of the day appeared to include more of the same.  Undaunted, we switched up our itinerary, combining some of our intended visits on Thursday with some of our plans for today, deciding to postpone our beach visits for a sunnier day.

We began our day doing a seaglass workshop, learning about seaglass and then making our own seaglass pendants.  Danica is hoping we are lucky enough to find some of our own seaglass on the beaches so that we can make some more pendants for people for Christmas.  If you usually get a Christmas gift from us, forget we said this and act surprised if you get one on Christmas morning.

Afterwards, we headed downtown to visit the Beaconsfield Historic House.  It was built in 1877 by Mr. Peake who was a shipbuilder.  He chose this location, in spite of having to move another beautiful home to have it, due to its proximity to the downtown area and view of the harbour.  Unfortunately, they later lost the house and he spent his last days bartending in Victoria, BC.  The house, following the death of the subsequent owner, was turned into a nursing dormitory prior to being transferred to the province.

We then headed to Cavendish to visit Green Gables and the LM Montgomery Homestead, the post office where her Grandmother worked, and the Cavendish cemetery where Maud, as she was known to her friends, is buried.  We were lucky enough to see Anne on site.  We also enjoyed our walks along Lover's Lane and through the Haunted Woods.

Of course, we also had to visit Avonlea Village while in the area.  We saw the school that Maud taught at as well as the church she attended.  We also tried our first lobster roll.  I actually enjoyed it but Danica decided that she is not a lobster fan.  We both liked the raspberry cordial but did not end up drunk like Anne and Diana.  Danica's favourite little treat discovery is these chocolate covered potato chips and caramel corn combination called Cow Corn.

Before heading back to Charlottetown, Danica wanted to visit the PEI Dirt Shirt store to have a tour of the factory.  They actually dye the shirts with the famous red soil.

Back in Charlottetown, we went to Victoria Park for a drizzly walk along the boardwalk and an ice cream at the Kiwanis Dairy Bar.  We checked out the Little Free Library next to it but didn't see anything that caught our fancy.  We also found the Beaconsfield House from the boardwalk and visited the Charlottetown Battery as well.

Danica wants you to choose your favourite.

By this time, the rain was heavier and we decided to come back home where we played a couple of games of Quixx while I enjoyed a local beverage.

Tomorrow is going to be an early day as we venture to the eastern portion of the island.  Hope all is well with all of you!
