North Cape

It's been a while since we have kept the blog up while traveling but decided that maybe this mother-daughter trip to Prince Edward Island was a worthy adventure.  I have never been to PEI but always wanted to visit.  'Anne with an E' has piqued Danica's interest as well.

Bright and early yesterday morning, we boarded our flight, first to Toronto and then onto Moncton, NB.  Danica's doll, Leonie, decided to accompany us.  We were pleasantly surprised by the roomy seats and leg room on our Air Canada Rouge flight to Moncton.  The barking dog in the cargo hold was a little disconcerting at takeoff as the sound wasn't immediately recognizable and was initially thought to be a plane noise.  But we all survived, as did the beautiful but very frightened dog.

Our rental car wasn't available at the time of our reservation.  I was first a little annoyed but decided since we were on vacation, we would just make the best of it. The guy at the rental car company kept our bags and Danica and I walked around downtown and found a cute little pub where we lunches on the patio.  Danica actually tried my calamari, her first adventurous food foray this trip!

After lunch, we wandered back to pick up our car and headed to PEI. We had planned to stop at the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre prior to crossing the Confederation Bridge but it was pouring rain so we figured the views would not be as spectacular as promised.

Once we crossed the bridge, we stopped in Borden-Carleton where we met Anne for the first time.

From there, we headed through Summerside.  It looked like it would be super cute if not for the rain.  We saw a sign for the Fox Museum and Danica wanted to go but we never stumbled across it.  On we went to the Bottle Houses at Cap Egmont.   Over 25,000 bottles make up the 3 structures constructed by Edouard Arsenault between 1980 and 1984.  There is a chapel, a six-gabled house and a tavern nestled among beautiful gardens.  It was very unique and I can only imagine how beautiful it would have been on a sunny day.

After leaving here, we thought we could save data, turn off Google Maps and use an old-fashioned road map.  We missed one turn and got briefly lost but managed to find our way up to Tignish where we checked in to our upgraded room at the Tignish Heritage Inn.  It is a beautiful old building that was built as a convent and boarding school.

For dinner, we headed to the North Cape lighthouse's Wind and Reef restaurant.  We ventured out for a walk along the Black Marsh Nature trail but didn't last long as the mosquitoes were apparently as hungry as we were!  We were hoping to catch a glimpse of sunset but the cloud cover made it less than spectacular.  The Red cliffs were stunning though.

On our way back to our Inn, we decided to venture along one of the North Cape drive sightseeing signs and saw Seacow Pond.

What will today bring?
